PacketFront announces next generation in Broadband Aggregation

ServiceEngine makes it easy to mix and match new broadband services with legacy technology.

PacketFront, the European market leader in fiber to the home broadband, is announcing its new broadband aggregation platform, the ServiceEngine. The ServiceEngine platform is based on the same Network Processing technology as PacketFront’s successful ASR5000 access switch, but the ServiceEngine’s higher capacity positions the system as a leading broadband aggregation platform for technologies such as ADSL, VDSL, Ethernet based FTTH, CATV and Passive Optical Networks (PON).

The ServiceEngine platform now allows network operators to leverage investments into legacy broadband infrastructure and take their networks to a new level – including enabling new and innovative services using the same type of service flexibility already found in PacketFront’s active Ethernet solution.
The ServiceEngine delivers advanced and concurrent any-play services to thousands of end-users and supported by the BECS element management system, the service delivery process is fully automated dramatically reducing the operational costs for operators.

The platform delivers more efficient bandwidth usage and can even replace costly BRAS systems for existing xDSL deployments as network operators move to FTTx. Packed with features such as real-time protocol monitoring of TV and detailed flow information export, the network operator is given valuable information concerning network maintenance, planning and troubleshooting as well as meeting regulatory requirements such as the 2006/24/EC data retention directive.

“This new generation of broadband aggregation builds on and extends our previous products in this area. The capabilities of this system create a leap in technology and functionality in the aggregation layer previously seen only with the introduction of the NPU-based ASR5000 access switch”, said Hubert Schanne, CEO of PacketFront. “PacketFront stays committed to FTTH and with the ServiceEngine we are now able to deliver the FTTH experience to all types of access technologies.
The ServiceEngine platform will begin shipping in Q2 of 2009.

PacketFront is a gold sponsor at the FTTH Council in Copenhagen on February 11- 12 and will be exhibiting their new solutions on booth G08.
