Sundbyberg Stadsnät runs city network based on FTTH-technology from PacketFront
PacketFront, the pioneer in open-access FTTH (Fiber-To-The-Home) broadband networking, has announced that it has built an open access network for Swedish city network operator, Sundbybergs Stadsnät. The new metro network already reaches 10,000 households and 500 businesses in Sundbyberg, a municipality just outside of Stockholm. Subscribers benefit from the choice of 60 services, including advanced triple-play (internet, TV and telephony) at highly competitive prices.
Emphasis on service development is changing and accelerating the development of the broadband access society. With open access, it is the network owner that shoulders the investment for the infrastructure, then charging the service provider for its use. An open-access environment must be open to unlimited service providers and it must be neutral in terms of competition. The financial benefits and increased market efficiency, together with the boost to services for end users, mean that everyone benefits – network owners, service providers and ultimately, end users.
PacketFront's unique broadband solution provides a cost-efficient infrastructure, and the high level of automation provided in areas such as control of services and subscribers, keeps OPEX and CAPEX low. PacketFront's award winning BECS control and provisioning system makes it possible for Sundbybergs Stadsnät to run its broadband network simply and efficiently because of the system's self-provisioning capabilities – of particular importance in an open access network. These capabilities give users the option to choose services for themselves without having to wait for a third party to make the changes
"One of our proudest achievements has been to take FTTH into the mainstream, and the network build in Sundbyberg is a further example of this," said Martin Thunman, CEO of PacketFront.
"We've been very impressed with PacketFront's swift network build and the minimal disruption the deployment has caused," said Heléne Jacobson, manager/VP of Sundbybergs Stadsnät. "We are now completely confident that critical services in the network are being delivered with complete quality assurance, and in addition to this, we're proud to be able to offer our customers such an impressive breadth of service choice."
