Hofors Hus provides residents with IPTV based on FTTH technology from PacketFront
PacketFront, the pioneer in open-access FTTH (Fiber-To-The-Home) broadband networking, has announced it has furthered its presence in Sweden by building an advanced open access triple-play network for Hofors Hus, a municipality owned residential housing company. Residents will be offered Internet, TV and telephony over the same connection, where IPTV will be the only source for TV. All services will be distributed via PacketFront’s control and provisioning system BECS. The open access network also gives users the option to choose services for themselves without having to wait for a third party to make the changes.
The award winning BECS control and provisioning system has enabled Hofors Hus to keep operational staff to a minimum because of its high level of automation – boosting efficiency and keeping costs down. The enhanced range of TV content now available to Hofors Hus residents adds further value to the company's housing offering.
"We're delighted that Hofors Hus chose us to build its triple-play FTTH network," said Martin Thunman, CEO of PacketFront. "Its key requirement was to manage the delivery of IPTV locally, and we're proud to say that no system can compete with BECS in making this possible with very little disruption and with a surprisingly small investment."
"We're very pleased with the triple-play network that PacketFront has built for us," said Mikael Nilsson, Project Manager of Hofors Hus. "To be able to offer residents an enhanced range of TV content differentiates us from competition that may not see how important triple-play services have become to consumers. We know from experience that this is what residents want, and we're happy to make it possible. A further benefit of the deployment is that managing IPTV content locally has been far simpler and less time consuming than we expected."
Just recently, OpenNet signed an agreement with Hofors Hus to act as its communications operator and continue to build out the open access network in Hofors. OpenNet and PacketFront have since a long time a close cooperation.
"Hofors Hus' investment in PacketFront's technology makes it easier for us as a communications operator to manage the network and quickly increase the range of services," said Robert Kjellberg, CEO of OpenNet. "Already in June we'll be able to offer all residents TV via their broadband connection."
