PacketFront and GothNet deliver advanced FTTH broadband technology to the residents of Gothenburg

PacketFront, the world leader in open access fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) technology and next generation broadband aggregation, has secured Sweden's biggest "active" city network to date in Gothenburg, the second largest city in Sweden. GothNet – one of the most experienced network service providers in Sweden - has deployed the full PacketFront solution, including its award winning BECS control and provisioning system, to provide businesses and residential areas with advanced broadband services.

Fast and efficient broadband had, until now, been limited to the larger companies in Gothenburg, due to the costs associated with implementing a large scale private city network. PacketFront offered the answer, an automated broadband solution that provides a cost-efficient infrastructure for the delivery of advanced triple-play services (TV, telephony, and internet) to the whole community. The high level of automation provided in areas such as control of services and subscribers, keeps OPEX and CAPEX low. PacketFront's expertise lies in dealing with the challenge of having an advanced technical solution act as an enabler for successful and profitable broadband deployment.

As a forward thinking company, GothNet has also embraced PacketFront's exclusive open access network, which will allow competing service providers to deliver triple play services over the same physical infrastructure. GothNet will be able provide the city with an array of TV channels, internet and telephony services, all over fibre, Cat5 or ADSL to ensure all users get a genuine choice of the services they want to provision, at the touch of a button.

"The extensive automation features of PacketFront's solution made it the obvious choice, in terms of the cost-effective control, and delivery of broadband services," said Mats Devert, managing director of GothNet. "We are dedicated to ensuring that Gothenburg evolves with the latest in broadband technology, to become a pioneering city - without it being a major financial burden on the economy. With the advanced automation features of PacketFront's technology, we can accelerate the time-to-market and lower OPEX costs – but still provide a flexible and advanced broadband solution."

"We are very excited about working with GothNet to provide the residents of Gothenburg with an exciting and innovative broadband system," said Martin Thunman, CEO of PacketFront. "It is forward thinking companies like GothNet which realise that by researching the market and working with vendors like PacketFront, sophisticated technology can be introduced in an economic and efficient manner, for the gain of all parties involved."
