Swedish 'MAN of the year' puts consumers in control with PacketFront's BECS

PacketFront, the world leader in open access fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) technology and next generation broadband aggregation, has announced that its customer Affärsverken, the company behind the Swedish city of Karlskrona's Metropolitan Area Network (MAN), has been awarded the Swedish 'MAN of the year' award. Affärsverken is one of the first providers in the world to offer triple play customers self-registering services.

Affärsverken's MAN is available to all residents of Karlskrona and is delivered by PacketFront's fully automated broadband solution, which allows companies to use flexible business models such as open access networks, where a variety of services are available from multiple content providers over the same physical infrastructure.

At the heart of PacketFront's solution is BECS™, the award-winning control and provisioning system. BECS enables Affärsverken to run its fully automated MAN with self-registering on-demand services. These capabilities give users the option to choose services from a number of competing service providers without having to wait for a third party to make the changes.

"Our vision is to be a leading force in the future development of Metropolitan Area Networks," said Jan Svensson, CEO of Affärsverken. "We are one of the first MANs in the world to allow consumers to hand-pick digital services at a touch of a button. Today, we offer standard triple play services as well as the ability to download movies and media files - but in the future, we will be able to provide services such as alarms, surveillance, health care services, data storage and much more."

"Self-provisioning triple play services from the home will one day be available in every household, and we are proud to have pioneered the technology that allows users to do this," said Martin Thunman, CEO of PacketFront. "We are very pleased that one of the world's most forward-thinking networks, Affärsverken in Karlskrona, has chosen to be powered by PacketFront's technology."

PacketFront delivers the infrastructure behind some of the world's most advanced and demanding triple-play networks, such as Dubai Internet City (150 IPTV channels) and Magnet Networks in Ireland (65 IPTV channels). These networks have all significantly lowered OPEX with PacketFront's fully automated broadband solution.
