Dubai Internet City - the biggest IT infrastructure in the Middle East- selects PacketFront for its next generation FTTH platform
PacketFront, the world leader in fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) technology and next generation broadband aggregation, has announced that it has been selected by Dubai Internet City (DIC) to build its triple play FTTH environment. DIC is the biggest IT infrastructure in the Middle East, built inside a free trade zone, and has the largest commercial IP telephony system in the world.
DIC is a leading service provider in the United Arab Emirates region and provides both residential and business users with a wide range of IP based services. In line with the constant expansion of the region, DIC is focusing on delivering innovative services, addressing the present and future needs of its customers.
During a period of 2 years, DIC conducted a series of extensive tests and pilot projects in order to select the right technology for its FTTH environment. Thorough evaluation allowed DIC to determine key requirements that PacketFront met successfully. PacketFront’s technology will provide DIC’s customers with an extensive selection of triple play services, including TV, telephony and high-speed Internet. DIC will provide these services to high profile areas in Dubai, such as the luxurious Palm Islands development and the newly built residential areas by Jumeirah Beach.
"We had to find a solution that was user-friendly both for our customers and for us, regardless of the size and growth of the network," said Farid Faraidooni, Deputy General Manager Telecom of Dubai Internet City. "PacketFront’s solution is ideal in this respect, offering us exactly the flexibility and automation possibilities we were looking for. This allows us to reduce the network operating costs by minimising staffing and management requirements."
The key component of PacketFront’s technology is BECS™, the award-winning service control and provisioning system. BECS enables operators to build and manage fully automated broadband networks with on-demand, self-provisioning functionality. This gives users the ability to increase capacity and change services for themselves, cutting out the delay of waiting for a third party to make the changes. For the DIC network, PacketFront is also supplying its series of Access Switching Routers (ASR’s).
"We are very proud to have been selected by Dubai Internet City to build their FTTH environment," said Martin Thunman, CEO of PacketFront. "DIC is well renowned for being at the cutting edge of broadband implementation in the same way that we are at the vanguard of triple play automation, making this a perfect match. The Middle East has enormous potential for building next generation broadband environments from the ground up, with some of the world’s most high-profile construction developments underway there. By deploying BECS, DIC has shown itself to be a market leader and visionary in this region."
